In today's video, I ATTEMPT to work out a way to install Rockwool Safe and Sound in my WhisperRoom. I stress the word "Attempt" for a reason. Frankly, it wasn't easy.

Rockwool Safe and Sound is a super cheap alternative to more expensive materials like Owens Corning 703, and you can get it at your local Lowes or Home Depot, so what could go wrong? Although Rockwool is makes a great soundproofing insulation, in the end it was just too fragile and soft to work with.

Getting it to stick to the walls was hard enough. Finding a way to make it stick to the ceiling was an even bigger challenge. Eventually I figured out a way to make it work, but in the end, it was too much work, so I decided to abort the installation and order the Owens Corning 703.

That said, it was a great effor... [More]

One of the first steps in my mission to learn the voice over business is to get the right gear, so I'm starting with upgrading my microphones. In today's video, I'm unboxing and setting up my new Shure SM7B, along with (and without) a Cloudlifter.

The Shure SM7B is a legendary microphone, with a long history in the broadcast, blogging, and voice over world, so I thought that would be the best place to start.

Frankly, I'm not exactly happy with the results, so my next step will be to try to optimize my settings and figure out the best way to use it.

The Cloudlifter was almost obligatory. Just about everybody who uses an SM7B buys the CloudLifter at the same time because the SM7B needs a LOT of gain.

The SM7NB is a dynamic microphone, so it needs about 60 db of gain to work.... [More]

My Journey into Voice Narration Begins

I'm new to Voice-Overs and narration. In fact, I've never been paid to do voice acting or narration but I'm learning how to do it right now and I thought it would be great if I shared what I learn, as I learn it.

In this video, I start my journey into the world of voice acting, voice-overs, and Audio Book narration, as I give a quick tour of my new WhisperRoom recording studio.

My goal in this particular video is to figure out the best way to setup and acoustically treat the Whisper Room to remove echo and improve the noise floor. My first ATTEMPT is to try to use low cost Roxul RockWool Safe and Sound, which is only $50 per bundle of 12 batts. That's a lot cheaper than Owens Corning 703, which costs over $100 for just 3 panels.

I post a new idea each day on my Idea of the Day B... [More]

A 15 second commercial

Here's another commercial for CouponPages.Com... It's only 15 seconds, but it ran millions of times on cable TV.

30 Second Commercial for CouponPages.Com

In case you missed it... here's one of my TV Commercials. It was viewed at least 20 million times on late-night TV.

LARGE-195 Here's one of my favorite places, the Devil's Corkscrew in the Grand Canyon. I didn't take this photo, in fact, I didn't even think of it at the time, but this photo is nearly identical to one of my all time favorite photos taken in the exact same place, exactly 20 years before, when I first visited the canyon in 1993.

While I didn't capture that photo, I did manage to capture the moment I entered that special place. It left me speechless, just as it did 20 years before.

Here I am at the exact same spot exactly 20 years before...

Why the new personal web site?

LARGE-152 It's been quite a long time since I've updated my personal home page, so anyone who has seen my old home page is probably wondering what the heck I've done. The new home page doesn't seem to be anything at all like my last one. So why change it?

Truth be told, my home page is just a way to test out my newest creation, simply called "Vovio".

I'm an independent software developer, and Vovio is my newest creation. Vovio my own content manager / blogging platform. It's a bit like WordPress, but in a lot of ways, it's nothing like it. That's why I wrote it.

I own about 750 domain names, but it's nearly impossible to put web sites on all of them from one central location. It's way too much work to install WordPress on all of them, and... [More]

LARGE-16 In case anyone hasn't noticed, I haven't updated JoeCrescenzi.Com since the late some time in 2001, so I decided to finally update it by making it part of the Vovio Network.

What does this mean? Well, it means that it will no longer be just a static site that nobody reads. Thanks to Vovio's cutting edge technology, it will finally become a fully interactive, multimedia site that nobody reads. I couldn't be prouder.
